Do you have an account with irs? If you do, log into it and click on records of account transcript and also on 2019 then read through. You will find code 971 which says injured spouse claim received and the date it was received will be in front of it
OK. I see that now. There's nothing there about the injured spouse form, so it probably hasn't been long enough. I'll keep checking. Thanks for the info, everyone.
I just hung up with Taxpayer advocates😡 here’s what I was told as of today- I e-filed on 2/21/2020 IRS recieved in same day . I filed Injured spouse form with my taxes I do this every year. (Even making monthly payments to Dept of Education I still have to do this) 5/8/2020 was post 11 weeks- nothing has changed on the Where’s my refund site no updates. I filed IRS form 911 On 4/30/2020 trying to get a Taxpayer Advocate- I need my refund! On 5/8/2020 I received a call from US GOVNT they received my 911 form and I would be getting a call today 5/11/2020 I also got my case # and direct phone number of my Taxpayer Advocate.
All my stuff has been entered- then was given the due to COVID-19 bull crap - I stopped her and reminded her my taxes were filed 6 weeks before the COVID-19 - and seeing that the Dept of Education is NOT offsetting these should of been done ASAP. Dept of Education announced this 3/25/2020 but knew they were going to do this beginning of March. Well I’m beyond 😡 she’s sending over a request to get ours looked at ASAP (whatever that means in IRS land if it has any meaning!) she will contact me within 2 weeks with updates. Word has it they are trying to get IRS up and going starting today- I closed with if I owe them money they do whatever measures it takes to get- they owe us money we’re told to wait! This has to change!!!
My situation is identical to yours. Same dates and all. I filed my 911 with tax advocate 10 days ago, have left them multiple messages and still haven't heard back. I think it's insane because we filed early and before 3/25 we don't get the automatic refund where the DOE is not offsetting due to the cares act like everyone else. It's ridiculous. They received my injured spouse weeks before the IRS shut down but we are still left here waiting with no one to help.
All we need is patience because there’s absolutely nothing we can do but hope.
Got an update with a new 899 code. So far it’s looking good and have waited 12 weeks for this after an offset has been made.
Here’s my update:
Monday 5/11 my Taxpayer advocate called me ( it will say (US GOV) I was told they would be sending it over and to expect a call by 5/25 was not happy with that date but there’s nothing else you can do. Today 5/12 I received a follow up from same person as yesterday- she gave me more contact info and a managers information also. I called and talked to whom I guess is my local Taxpayer advocate- I explained where and what I’ve done. I feel that filing almost 6 weeks prior to shutdown mine should of been moving (again mine would normally be offset by DOE) she said she would be sending this to the IRS expediting this, but couldn’t get me a time frame. And about 3 hours later she called back with an update and stated the IRS was working on my account. All I can say is call daily to your local Taxpayer advocate office and leave a message, as I get information I will
continue to post. Crappy thing about all this is if you owe them you know darn well they have people in there pushing papers - but they owe us you get the sorry were closed line.
The IRS received my injured spouse form in early Feb. Still waiting for my refund. They'll use the coronavirus excuse as the reason for the delays for the next 10 years. Wouldn't be surprised if I don't get my refund for another year.

Can any one tell me if the irs is still close and when are they planing to reopen
Yes.
The IRS is still operating with limited departments.
Please see the link below for updates as to what departments are available to contact at the moment.
Yes there are some offices that just started back in on Monday 5/11 - try your local Taxpayer Advocate office leave a message - go to the IRS website and fill out form 911 and fax to local Tacpayer advocate office - they will forward your case on to to get it resolved
On my transcripts it gave me (code 899 REMOVED REFUND APPLIED TO NON IRS DEBT -73.45).They sent me a check for 73.45 but the offset due by my spouse was for $4,499.70. Can someone help me understand what’s going on
The IRS took the majority of your refund and applied it to your spouse's debt. But this isn't just any regular debt. Your spouse must have owed child support, student loan default, or some other type of specific debt.
