Federal Payment still not debited from my account - 6 days later

Return filed on 4/4 (Fed and CA)

Returns accepted on 4/4 (Fed and CA)

Payments made from same account/routing number (Fed and CA)

Payment taken from account on 4/6 - CA ONLY

Why hasn't my federal payment been debited from my account and how can I check/fix this?

The direct debit will occur on or after the date you specified when you selected the direct debit option.

See the following TurboTax article for more information and advice:  When will my tax payment go through?

Federal Payment still not debited from my account - 6 days later

Thank you, AnnetteB6.

Perhaps I should have been more clear.  To the best of my knowledge, I specified the same date for both my Fed and CA payments and only the CA payment has been debited from my account.

Though there is more time for the payment to be made, I am concerned as a full work week has passed.

I need to know how TurboTax can help me to confirm the payment date and credentials supplied and how to make sure that my payment is taken by the Federal government.

Where do I look?  How do I look?  Who can help?

You can reach it from your TurboTax timeline.  Select Add a State, then follow the instructions listed in the following TurboTax FAQ:  How do I review the method I chose to pay my federal ...

I'm having the exact same issue.  I filed on 4/5.  Returns were accepted the same day. CA took their payment on 4/7.  Still waiting for the payment to be taking for Fed.

Federal Payment still not debited from my account - 6 days later

I just checked my bank account again.  This is the 10th business day since I filed my taxes.

- Fed and CA both filed on 4/5

- CA taken w/in 2 business days

- Fed not taken yet

- TurboTax help referred me to IRS

- IRS help line says that it takes up to 10 business days for them to take funds (...odd?)

- Assuming no movement by EOD today, will start contacting IRS again

Thank you.

I had posted the IRS Phone # as provided to me by Intuit and which I had used to call the IRS.  That IRS Phone # was apparently removed from my post.  I do not understand why this was done.

The program filter pulls out anything that might be private. The program didn't know if it was your phone number or other. Better safe than sorry. People post their socials, emails, user id and password, and so on. We are trying to protect people from scammers so everything gets removed that could possibly be harmful to you.

Federal Payment still not debited from my account - 6 days later

Soon after I filed on 4/5, I received notifications that both my CA and Federal tax returns were accepted.

On 4/6, CA took my tax payment.

It has now been more than 10 business days and 14 calendar days since I filed my taxes and my federal tax payment has not been made (note that IRS requests that 10 days elapse before assuming an issue).

I called the IRS again today, 4/18, and I spoke with an agent who provided options for me to pay:

1. EFT.gov

2. IRS website

I will try to pay directly using the sites mentioned by the IRS agent.

In a normal season, the IRS will debit your account on the date you specified or soon after.  We have had several reports of the IRS not debiting accounts on the scheduled date. Just be patient -- the IRS will take your money!

If you want to check the debit date you specified, look on the filing instructions for your return.  It will tell you the debit date the IRS or State will deduct the payment.  If you did not print them out you can view them using the following steps:

TurboTax Online

To get back into your return after printing or e-filing, please follow these steps:

  1. In TurboTax Online, sign into your account.

  2. You should be on your Tax Home page.

  3. Scroll down to Your tax returns & documents.

  4. Select 2020, and then select Add a State (you're not actually adding a state, this just gets you into the right menu).

  5. Once you're in your return, you can navigate around as usual.

  6. Click Tax Tools (in the black bar on the left of your screen) and then click select Print Center.

  7. Click Print, save or preview this year's return

TurboTax CD/Download

  1. Go into Forms Mode by clicking on the Forms icon in the top right of the blue bar.

  2. In the Forms in My Return list on the left, click Filing Inst.  [It's usually toward the bottom of the list.]  The form will appear on the right side of the screen.

  3. You can view the form on the screen or you can print a copy by clicking the Print box at the bottom of the screen.

  4. To return to the interview, click on the Step-By-Step icon in the top right of the blue bar.

The IRS does take some time to withdraw funds. They are backlogged. Try waiting up to a few days before the May 17 deadline before prompting a secondary means of payment. Otherwise, it could end up that you double pay and then have to wait for a refund.

To determine if there is a problem, check your account here: IRS: View Your Tax Account Information

If the payment has still not been withdrawn and you are within a few days of May 17, go to IRS Paying Your Taxes for options or see 2020 Form 1040 Instructions, page 62. Payment options include:

Federal Payment still not debited from my account - 6 days later

Well, sure enough, the IRS did take my payment twice.

Their recommendation both live and recorded, was to contact them if my payment had not been received within 10 days.  I waited until that time expired, spoke with an agent live.  That IRS Agent informed me that they could not locate my bank information.  She told me to pay directly and I did so on that day.  Six calendar days and four business days later, the IRS took my money from my bank account for a second time.

So, now I will try to get my money back or maybe leave it there toward next year's taxes.

Does anyone have any recommendations this time?
