Does anyone know how I can find out if my 2019 Federal Tax return has been accepted by the IRS? I mailed it around 7-10 days ago, but I now need to amend the return.

I need to amend the return for my Supplemental Tax statement I received from Merrill Lynch that I forgot about...ugh

You can check your TurboTax filing status here:
https://shop.turbotax.intuit.com/efile/efile_status_lookup.jsp

You can check the IRS Where's My Refund website:
https://www.irs.gov/Refunds

Check your state refund here:

If you filed, it is like dropping it into the mail - you cannot get it back if accepted by the IRS or state.

To amend your 2019 tax return:

-- First, *wait* to see if your return has been accepted or rejected by the IRS or state. DO NOT do anything until you receive the accept or reject e-mail.

-- If rejected, you can correct and re-send your return.

-- If accepted you should *wait* until your return has been processed and you receive your refund or conformation that any tax due has been paid. (If you file an amended return while you first return is being processed it can cause extended delays for both returns if two returns are in the system at the same time). In addition, if the IRS makes any change on your original return, you might end up having to amend the amendment – a sticky process that can take a year or more).

-- Then you can start the amend process.

-- Amended returns can only be mailed - allow 8-12 weeks - can take up to 16 weeks (4 months) for processing.

See this TurboTax FAQ for help with amending:

You can check the status of your amended return here but allow 3 weeks after filing for it to show up:

TurboTax will not know anything about your mailed return, and will continue to show “Ready to Mail” on your account.  TurboTax will not know that you put your tax return in an envelope and took it to a mailbox.  TurboTax does not get updates on mailed  (or emailed) returns.

Wait about 4 weeks from when you mail a return and then you can check the status on the IRS site. https://www.irs.gov/refunds

State returns have to be mailed to the state.

If you mail a tax return (or a payment) to the IRS, it is a good idea to use a mailing service that will track it like UPS or certified mail so you will know it was received.

You only mailed the first return less than two weeks ago?  Do not try to amend and send in an amended return yet.  That could cause all kinds of confusion and delay your refund for months.  You send in an amended return AFTER your first one has been fully processed.

Thanks, I missed that it was mailed.
