How much would I be charged to file an amended tax return? I already e filed and received my refund but just got a 1099 with a short term investment loss I need to report.

There is no cost to amend a tax return.  Unless your amendment requires you to use a higher edition of TurboTax, such as upgrading to the Premium online edition from the Deluxe online edition.  In that case you would only be billed for the difference in price between the two editions.

The Form 1040-X for amending a 2025 federal tax return is estimated to be available in TurboTax on 02/19/2026

You will have to wait for the IRS to either Accept or Reject your filed federal tax return.
If the return is rejected you can make the necessary changes and e-file again.
If the return is accepted you will have to amend your original tax return. An amended return, Form 1040-X, can only be printed and mailed to the IRS if the original tax return was not e-filed. The IRS will take up to 20 weeks or longer to process an amended tax return.

Before starting to amend the tax return, wait for the tax refund to be received or the taxes due to be paid and processed by the IRS.

My return was accepted and refund deposited. I now need to amend … forgot to claim mortgage closing costs and interest paid in December. Turbo Tax site is saying the form to amend a 1040 isn’t yet available. When will it be available?

TurboTax will not be available to process amended returns for 2025 until late February of 2026.

TurboTax provides a list of Tax form availability ‌for individual Federal and State returns forms that are‌ being revised.

On the website Select

  • Select return type [1040 Individual]
  • Select agency [US - Federal]
  • Third Box [1040X]
