Yeah they will AUTOMATICALLY fix the issue with the recovery rebate credit! If you said you didn’t receive it, then it added $1,400 to your Federal tax return & if it turns out that you actually DID receive it, they’re just going to deduct that $1,400 from your tax return BUT YOUR RETURN WILL BE DELAYED unfortunately. You don’t have to do anything at all! They will fix this issue automatically.
Don’t amend your return! It’ll take almost a year sometimes to get an amended return. They’re automatically fixing the Stimulus check issues without us having to do anything! Thank god lol but it’s still going to delay our returns most likely a few weeks.
I accidentally claimed the recovery rebate and they took 1400 out of my account. I had my bank dispute it so maybe they can investigate what happened… I was told by a rep that I would recieve cp12 letter but I don’t understand it. I just want to know will I get my money back because it wasn’t money from a refund it was money I saved.

Dispute what? If you indicated that you did not receive the 3rd stimulus payment then the Recovery Rebate Credit of $1,400 was entered on your federal tax return, Form 1040 Line 30. The IRS has records showing that the 3rd stimulus payment was sent to you. So the IRS adjusted your tax return accordingly and removed the $1,400 credit.
@Amya1234 Who took 1400 out of your account? Or do you mean the IRS deducted it from your refund and deposited less? You already got the 1,400 last year right? You tried to claim it again. Line 30 is only if you didn't get the full amount or qualify for more.
The IRS took 1,400 out of my account.

How much was your original refund on line 35a. Did you get it or a deposit for less?
They didn’t refund me 1,400 though… that was my money they took. I’m not sure if I put the correct amount or not. It said something about putting the amount that was on my account the first time I put zero then the second time I put 1,400. After the second time they took that 1,400 out.
Refund :
Federal: $1,590
Indiana: 47
Received 47 for Indiana and assume 190 for federal but did not receive 1,590 I got 1,400 taken out of my bank account. They didn’t take it out of my refund. Nor did I owe anything back.
They didn’t deduct nothing from my return. They just refunded me 190 plus 47 and took out 1400 from my bank account.
It's hard to follow your posts. Did the IRS just reduce your refund or did they actually take the 1400 out of your bank account?
Sounds like you had 1400 on line 30 so your refund was too high. Line 30 was added into your refund. But the IRS knows they already sent you the 1400 so they took it off line 30. If it was on line 30 then you were trying to get another $1400.
Yes that was by accident. I tried To break it down in another post. They did not deduct my refund. I only received 190+47. I didn’t receive the mistaken amount they said I was supposed to get. Instead they took out 1,400.
Yes they took 1400 out of your refund before they sent it to you. Then only sent you the rest for 190. They didn't actually take it out of your bank account. Or does your bank account have a separate charge transaction saying US Treasury or IRS for a minus 1,400?
My bank account actually says the IRS took 1400. They didn’t refund 1,590. They refunded only 190+47. The 190 I assume was federal and the 47 was Indiana as stated on my return and bank account.
