2022 TT files are gone!

Got our taxes done and filed. Working on the kids'.

TT did an update. Now all my TT files are gone. pdfs are gone too.

W-2's and other supporting docs are still in the folder

Searched my computer for *.tax2022 with zero results.

They were always in (myname)/Documents/Finances/2022/

Started TT and it's acting like I'm a new user filing for the first time.

It can't find any *.tax2022 files.

Where did they go?

I've found a lot of bugs in the 2022 version!!

@fiedler  Sorry this is happening to you.  I am assuming you are using the desktop version of TT.

How did you purchase it and where did you obtain the download?

Where did you search?  From just c: or did you choose from this pc? Could they be on a network location or the cloud?

Is it possible you were doing the taxes in the online signed in program and not on the desktop version?  I've seen a number of people make that mistake.  They sign into tt to download the software then they end up doing it in the online program and thought they were using their download.

Is it possible you reinstalled the software in the docs folder and overwrote them?

There are a number of recovery softwares out there One I have used with success is RECUVA

Try searching *tax*.*  under THIS PC to find any pdf or .tax files

You may have other issues on your pc. I use the desktop and have not had any issues with the software myself this year.

Contact TT support which may be difficult if none of the above work out. Note, I do NOT work for TT.  Just trying to help.

Figured it out. This is a new PC and Windows created a new user name for me as well as keeping my old user account from the previous PC file transfers. Didn't notice that I had 2 user accounts. 

When TT updated it moved my 2022 TT and pdf files from my new user account to my old user account. No idea why that happened. Maybe because that's the account name I've used in previous years.

The same exact thiing has happened to me.  All my 2022 TT files are gone.  Of course ALL .taxYEAR files are in tact going back 20+ years, but not 2022 which I needed to transfer the returns.

I also replaced and got a new PC in Jun of 22.  Weird thing is that I installed TT and sucessfully transferred the 2021 returns and successfully completed my returns for 2022.

Just this month I installed TT and did the obligatory update and it was at this point I noticed the missing 2022 files.

May I ask if you were able to recover the 2022 files by logging in to the other MS Windows account?  I've never used the Windows accounts and prefer to work offline so MS can't do anything...  But I'll go and check.  

Any advice appreciated.
