I e-filed my return and printed a voucher to send with my check at a later date. I have two questions.
1) Do I need to file a return with the voucher or only the voucher with my check?
2) There is talk that the filing date has been extended to May 15, 2021. Can I hold my check until then even though I have e-filed and the return has been accepted.
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
You only need to mail the voucher, Form 1040-V, with your check to the address on the voucher. No other forms are needed to be mailed since you e-filed the tax return.
The due date for paying federal taxes owed has been changed to May 17, 2021, so make sure you mail the payment and voucher on or before that date.

Why did I get charged 120.00 for federal tax when turbo tax says federal is free when it's the standard deduction? This is very underhanded way of you getting customers although in the past when I filed with turbo tax I never had a problem.
If this is the way you do business remove me from your system. I no longer want to do business with you if this is what you do.

I am sorry about the confusion. It must be very frustrating!

I made a payment through turbo tax but could not file electronically it was rejected so I had to mail it. Where is the payment that I made through turbo tax for what I owe on the taxes
If your efile did not go though then the IRS (or state) didn't get the payment instructions to debit your account or charge your credit card. You still need to pay. Look at the mail instructions to see how you are suppose to pay now.
How to pay the IRS
https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/tax-payments/help/how-can-i-pay-my-federal-taxes/01/26212
Pay the IRS directly at
https://www.irs.gov/payments
Your only proof of payment is your bank statement or credit card showing the payment coming out. Turbo Tax will always show the tax due or refund. That is just the final result on your tax return. Your return on Turbo Tax is not updated when you paid the tax due. The IRS doesn't tell Turbo Tax anything about your return. After Turbo Tax transmits your return they are done with their part.

Did you e-file your tax return and was it accepted?
Only the IRS and your State control when and if a Federal or State tax refund is Approved and Issued.
You complete your tax return by finishing all 3 Steps in the File section. In Step 3, to e-file your tax return, you must click on the large Orange button labeled "Transmit my returns now".
After completing the File section and e-filing your tax return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first email when your tax return was transmitted and the second email when the tax return has either been accepted or rejected.
Note - Once a tax return has been Accepted by the IRS or a State, TurboTax receives no further information concerning the tax return or the status of any tax refund. Only the taxpayer listed on the tax return can obtain the status of a tax refund or a tax return.
To check the status of an e-filed return, open up your desktop product or log into your TurboTax Online Account. You can find your status within the TurboTax product.
If accepted by the IRS use the federal tax refund website to check the refund status - https://www.irs.gov/refunds
If accepted by the state use this TurboTax support FAQ to check the state tax refund status - https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1899433-how-do-i-track-my-state-refund
After the tax return has been Accepted by the IRS (meaning only that they received the return) it will be in the Processing mode until the tax refund has been Approved and then an Issue Date will be available on the IRS website.
See this IRS website for federal tax refund FAQ's - https://www.irs.gov/refunds/tax-season-refund-frequently-asked-questions
Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don't enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.
Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
Then press 4 for all other inquiries
It should then transfer you to an agent.
