I got my federal refund check a few days ago. The address on the check was "APT 22", but my apartment number is 221. So, I added a "1" by hand. When I tried to deposit this check today, it did not work. Can I get a new check? Or direct deposit?

That is a question for the IRS. But first----why not try depositing the check at your bank again and ask for a bank manager who might not be so picky about the fact that you tried to "fix" the address. (Why did you do that?) And ----were you trying to deposit the check by taking a photo of it with your phone? Or did you go to the bank in person?

I tried to deposit the check by taking a photo of it with my phone. I didn't go to the bank.
@ghulama083 Do you have a brick and mortar bank that you can go inside to? By writing on that check by hand you messed it up and the "take a photo" method of depositing it is a problem. The address would not have mattered if you would have left it alone.
