I received a message from Turbo Tax stating my return was accepted and the IRS has issued me a refund. What does this mean?

Turbo Taxes message said my return was accepted on September 17,  2023 and the IRS has issued me a refund. Is this good?

doesn't seem right. Turbotax gets notified if the return is accepted and then notifies you. The IRS never tells Turbotax that a refund has been issued.

my e-mail from Turbotax merely states the return has been accepted and you are finished with your taxes.

Check the IRS site for refund release information :  https://www.irs.gov/refunds

After you e-file, TurboTax sends you an email to tell you whether the e-file was accepted or rejected.  Once your e-file is accepted, TurboTax gets no information at all from the IRS or your state.   TT does give an estimated date for your refund, but that is only based on average processing time; it is not a promise or firm date.  You have to get information from the IRS refund site.

TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer.  “21 days”  is not a promise from TurboTax or the IRS.

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control.  TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2022 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

To track your state refund:

If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing.
