From a FAQ
The same sequence of events occurs if the IRS is still holding your refund 36 days after your original estimated refund date, except that we'll also debit the Pay With My Refund fee (if any) in Step 3.
The provision is spelled out in the Pay With My Refund Agreement, which you agreed to when you opted to pay with your refund.
In addition, by clicking the "I Agree" button below, you electronically sign and authorize Intuit (through its third party processor) to debit the TurboTax Fees, Additional Products and Services Purchased and any applicable sales tax from your bank account number identified in the Agreement below, in the event that you do not receive a tax refund that is sufficient to pay for them.
Kindly grant a deferment
The agreement was that you would be pay from refund. This is not proper. Perhaps my refund has not arrived because of something you did.

On the email you received from TurboTax there is a phone number. Call TurboTax for how to pay the amount owed.
Also see this TurboTax support FAQ for information on payment of fees - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/charges-and-fees/help/why-was-my-bank-account-auto-debited-for-tur...
I agree. I am now being charged for my return that was "accepted" in which I now owe on. So it was not accepted and turbo tax is full of it.
@Zanghi
If your return was not accepted, it was either not filed or rejected and would not have been filed successfully. You must have filed a return for this process to have started. If you have not successfully filed a return, this needs to be addressed. You can fill this form out for someone to call you. Your return needs to be filed or have no fees. You should not be charged if your return was not filed or was filed and rejected only.
My return was accepted and still states that on my TT app. But I also got a letter from the irs saying I owe. I have also (for about a month now) been checking my status on the irs website and they have zero information on my return.
Thank you for the reply. I'm guessing my next steps are to call TT and find out what's going on. I'm not sure (or smart enough) to know what else I can do. I just think it's odd that TT would want to get paid before I see a dime.. I you would think the status of your return and paying for services would go hand n hand.
If the IRS sent you a letter saying you owe then you are not getting a refund anymore. They changed your return. So there is no refund to take the fees out of.
See What if the IRS reduces your refund or delays it.
And, Why you got charged,
You should have received about 4 emails asking for the fees. If you don't pay they will debit your account. You had to agree to it.
How much was your refund? How much does the IRS say you owe now?
A common adjustment is if you claimed the Recovery rebate credit on 1040 line 30 when you already got the Stimulus payment or got the second one after you filed or reported the wrong amounts or entered the wrong amounts in the 2 boxes. If you entered the total you got for both rounds in the same box it would think you didn't get the other one. The IRS knows how much they already sent you. You might have tried to claim it again on line 30.
So if my return wasn't "accepted" why am I paying turbo tax for a service that I agreed to when at the time I agreed to their services the numbers were false? I'm never using TT again. If they don't provide accurate information I shouldn't have to pay them
My point being. When you agree to terms you are agreeing to everything that has presented before until that point. If those things change doesn't that change the agreement?
And no.. I didn't try to "reclaim" anything. My taxes are simple and typically don't enter anything beyond the first few lines
Did you have an amount on 1040 line 30? How much was your refund suppose to be? How much does the IRS say you owe?
Accepted does not mean Approved.
Accepted only means the IRS verified some basic info on it so they know it's really from you. After it is Accepted the IRS processes it then approves it before they send the refund.

What happens after your return is accepted
Way to ignore most of the point I was making about agreeing to terms. Sorry.. I'm not posting the specifics of my finances in a forum.
