I forgot to file a 1099R I didn't get the notice for it till today and I filed yesterday what should I do?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
Additionally, the IRS may add the 1099-R and correct the original return for you.
In that situation, the IRS will send you a letter and ask if you agree with the change. If you do, there is no need to amend the return for the IRS.
If the 1099-R will mean you'll owe tax, make sure you get that additional tax paid before April 15th.
(if you're not sure, you can enter the 1099-R into the TurboTax program to check)
If the return is rejected you can make the necessary changes and e-file again.
If the return is accepted you will have to amend your original tax return. An amended return, Form 1040-X, can only be printed and mailed to the IRS if the original tax return was not e-filed. The IRS will take up to 20 weeks or longer to process an amended tax return.
Before starting to amend the tax return, wait for the tax refund to be received or the taxes due to be paid and processed by the IRS.

I have the same issue (filed, 1099-R showed up next day).
In my case, I'm expecting a refund; the 2a box on the 1099-R indicates $0 taxable amount, and entering the data into TurboTax online produced no change in the refund amt. My refund has already been approved by the IRS.
IF they do not send back a letter of correction (they appear not to have), should I still amend?
thanks!
Maybe. If you have a Form 1099-R with an amount in Box 1, it's generally a good idea to report it on an amended return. This can help avoid any potential notices from the IRS.
The IRS might send you a CP2000 notice about the discrepancy.
However, if the Form 1099-R has no impact on your taxes (e.g., you have no income to report), you might not need to file an amended return. Keeping the Form 1099-R for your records can be a simple solution, and you can wait to see if the IRS contacts you.
You can use this IRS tool to determine if you should amend your tax return, click here and select "Begin" to enter your information. It will ask you questions about your issue.
