After you file
Additionally, the IRS may add the 1099-R and correct the original return for you.
In that situation, the IRS will send you a letter and ask if you agree with the change. If you do, there is no need to amend the return for the IRS.
If the 1099-R will mean you'll owe tax, make sure you get that additional tax paid before April 15th.
(if you're not sure, you can enter the 1099-R into the TurboTax program to check)
