I did not claim my baby born in 2020 as a dependent, his father did. His father taxes got rejected but mine didnt. How do I amend my taxes with the 1040x form?

I entered in my taxes I had a baby in 2020, and his ss #. I selected no to not claim him as a dependent.  Babys father did claim him as a dependent, but his taxes were rejected because babys ss# was already on my taxes. How do we amend this issue so babys father can refile?

In the first place the father will have to print and mail his return.  So he doesn't have to wait for you to amend.  Even if you amend he has to mail since the baby's ssn has already been used this year.

Thanks, working on mailing his out. What do I include or not include on the 1040 x form?

First add your dependent then include everything from  your original return.

You may have additional  or larger credits on your return.  Be sure to check to see if you qualify for the Earned Income Credit and Child Care Credit.

If you need to revisit the Dependents section in TurboTax Online, here's what you do:

1. Open or continue your return in TurboTax, if you aren't already in it.
2. Select My Info in the left navigation.
3. Select the Add a dependent button if you need to add someone. Select the trash can icon next to the name of a dependent to remove them (we'll ask you to confirm removing them before we take them off your return).
