I can't remember which tax agency I used to file electronically last year. How can I get a copy of my transcript?

I went to the IRS site to request a copy of my transcript and it asked for user name and password. When I said I forgot, it said it would send it to my email address, but it never came. Therefore, I never got any information. I don't know how to get a copy of last years tax return. Help?

You can request a copy of your transcript by printing, completing, and mailing IRS Form 4506-T.  Here's a link to the form and instructions:  https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4506t.pdf

When they sent a copy of file, it said it was not filed. Yet I have a receipt of money owed and paid!

"they sent a copy of the file"  Who sent you a copy?  Did you print a copy from TurboTax?  Earlier you said the IRS has no record and did not send you anything.  "money owed and paid"--money you paid for TurboTax fees or money you paid to the IRS?  Which?  Paying the TurboTax fee did not file your tax return.  You had to go all the way through the FILE section and click that big orange button that says "Transmit Return Now."  If you did not do that, or mail in the return,  then your tax return was not ever filed. If you filed by mail last year, then the software has no way to know that your return was filed. If you did not file the return, you can still  print, sign, and mail the return.

Or did you just use a different tax preparation service--that would explain why you cannot find anything on TurboTax.

If you can't get the side menus to open up to access the prior year..... You need to start entering some basic Personal Info in 2022 for the side menu to open up. Just continue a little ways into 2022. I had to go though about 12 screens.

If you used the Desktop CD/Download program then the only copy is on your computer and not saved or stored online. So you need to make and keep your own backups.
