if your 2022 tax return was ACCEPTED you still have a few e-Filing days remaining to correct that by AMENDMENT with the correct 2022 amounts.

After that you can go back to working on 2021 tax return.

The online program can only be used for 2022 returns--no other year.  So what did you do?  Did you enter 2021 information into the current online program?  Did you e-file it?   Was the return accepted or rejected?   If you used the online program and entered 2021 information, your tax return is all wrong, but if the IRS accepted it for processing, you are going to have to wait for them to fully process it and then file an amended return with your 2022 information instead.  You cannot "get back" an e-filed return that was accepted.

If the return was rejected----that is better.   If it was rejected, then you can delete the 2021 information you used and then either abandon the account, or use it for your 2022 information.   But you only have until October 16 to get 2022 prepared and e-filed before online and e-filing for 2022 close down.

If you go past October 16 to sort this out, you will need the downloaded software on a full PC or Mac to finish preparing 2022, and the return will have to be filed by mail:

As for how to correctly prepare and file your 2021 return--which you can go ahead and do now --

Online preparation and e-filing for 2019 and 2020 and 2021 is permanently closed.

To file a return for a prior tax year

If you need to prepare a return for 2019, 2020 or 2021 you can purchase and download desktop software to do it, then print, sign,  and mail the return(s)

https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/

You may also want to explore purchasing the software from various retailers such as Amazon, Costco, Best Buy, Walmart, Sam’s, etc.

Remember to prepare your state return as well—if you live in a state that has a state income tax.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

Note:  The desktop software you need to prepare the prior year return must be installed/downloaded to a full PC or Mac.  It cannot be used on a mobile device.

If you are getting a refund, there is not a penalty for filing past the deadline.  If you owe taxes, the interest/penalties will be calculated by the IRS based on how much you owe and when they receive your return and payment. The IRS will bill you for this; it will not be calculated by TurboTax.

If the IRS accepted your incorrect e-file and you have to amend:

See this TurboTax support FAQ for amending a tax return - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/amend-change-correct-return-a...

And....it will take the IRS four to six months-- or longer -- to process an amended return.

I see no reason to wait since the e-FIle window will close shortly

and you know the tax return is completely wrong.
