How can I open a 2014 Turbo Tax file?

I have bought turbo tax since 2009, I have lost my 2014 turbo tax disc and need to open my turbo tax files that were not saved to PDF, help!!!

A *.tax2014 data file requires the 2014 desktop software.

If you no longer have the 2014 program installed on your computer, and if you lost the 2014 CD, you can phone TurboTax Support and request a program download.

Use the form at this link during business hours to be assigned a phone number.  The number will not be presented when they are closed.  5AM-5PM Pacific (8AM-8PM Eastern) Mon-Fri.

To access your current or prior year tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the userID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show.  Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)

If you used the desktop CD/Download editions installed on your computer, the only copy of your tax data file and any PDF's will be on the computer where the return was created.  TurboTax does not store online any returns completed using the desktop editions.

if done online it will be in your TT a/c.  if done on your computer you need the .tax2014 file and the desktop software.  if you do not have the desktop software even if you get a free download it is possible the software is not up to date and thus opening your return can change it.  updates for 2014 are no longer available.  the other option is that there are firms that advertise on the web that they can print out your 2014 TT exactly as it was if you send them the tax file.  There is the obvious risk since all your info will be revealed to them.

If you can’t find or install the program to open a .tax file you can use www.taxprinter.com to convert a .tax file to pdf. No connection to Turbo Tax. They might be expensive.

Then you have to log into your online account to get a copy.

It's common to end up with multiple accounts. First LOG OUT of whatever TurboTax account you're logged into right now. Then use this TurboTax account recovery website to get a list of user ID's for an email address. Run the tool against any email addresses you may have used

If you used the Desktop CD/Download program then the only copy is on your computer and not saved or stored online.

Amazon just sold me a TurboTax 2014 CD for $8.99.

A lot cheaper than going to a "tax printer" service.

P.I.T.A. to reinstall, just so I can load the old *.tax2014 files and print them to a *.pdf, but cheap compared to the alternative(s).  The time I already wasted looking for my old install CD was worth a heck of a lot more, even if I only rated it at 50 cents per hour!  🙂

Jeff Bezos doesn't really need my $8.99, but he got it anyway.

FYI - just For 2014 Desktop program they tried to make Desktop the same as the online versions where you need a higher version to enter certain items.   Good luck.   What version did you buy?   Were you able to save the pdf?

Well you just wasted $8.99 plus shipping.   What comes in the box is a CD that only has the beta version of the program on it and it will not work because you can no longer get any of the updates to make it a fully operational program or any of the state programs for it since Intuit stopped supporting tax year 2014 back in 2018.

Your point might be valid, critter, if I wanted to do anything more than just print out a .pdf file of my long-since completed return.  Because I have the option to skip updates, and just load in the old .TAX2014 file for printing, I can do 100% of everything I care about, at this point.

So, money not so much wasted, when you consider the $44+ dollar cost of 'tax printers'.

All's well that ends well.  I spend $8.99 ( free shipping ) and get a pdf file, which is all I wanted.
