Your TurboTax online account says "Ready to mail?" That means you did not e-file your tax return. If you chose to file by mail and did not put that Form 1040 in an envelope and take it to a mailbox, you have not filed. So....either e-file by going though all of the steps of the FILE section to click that big orange button that says "Transmit my returns now"---or print your return, sign and date it in ink, and mail it to the IRS and state.
To change to e-filing:
When you e-file your return you will get two emails from TurboTax. The first one will say your return has been transmitted; the second one will tell you the IRS has accepted or rejected your federal e-file. If you filed a state return, there will be a third email (usually a day or two later) that tells you if the state e-file was accepted or rejected.
If you file by mail:
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
So the status at the Tax Home of your Online account says "ready to mail?" If so, that means TurboTax thought you were going to print and mail your return as your filing method. Did you choose to file a paper return by mail, and if so, did you physically print, sign, date, and mail it to the IRS? TurboTax does not mail it for you.
So how did you intend to file originally?
If you didn't file by paper return in the mail, and if it turns out that you haven't actually filed at all, and if you want to efile it, you can open the return interview back up, make any corrections if needed, and change the filing method to efile.
