Today I received and email from TurboTax advising that I have a benefit for Audit Defense that is free. All I need to do is to open up my return (2023), go to Review and select Audit Defense and follow the instructions. The instructions in the email says that I will not be charged but the TurboTax software indicates that I will be charged $45 and it is asking for credit card information to assess the charge. Is this email a Scam of sorts.

Audit defense can only be purchased when you file your taxes. This does sound like a phishing attempt.
Please use this link to report the phishing email to Intuit.
I got the same thing. It doesn't seem to be phishing.
The Turbo Tax sign-up request and ensuing confirm email shows that it was free and receipt shows zero.
The turbo Tax printed tax form includes a letter stating it costs $60.
I've had several email conversations with Audit Defense, and they say it's all up to Turbo Tax, not them. (Plus they keep wanting to speak by phone, which I did not want to do.)
So, there is no way to get an answer from Turbo Tax without a phone call, and I prefer email discussions.
Not happy with Turbo Tax in this Audit Defense case.
Anyone get any answers on this. I jus got the email that the time to sign up for the free defense is ending soon, followed all the promts, it says you don't need to enter a credit card but you can't move forward without entering a credit card. This is so confusing and frustrating.
Sounds like phishing.
I have the same problem.
It is a scam and not from TurboTax. Do not give them your credit card information.
