If you didn't file with a TurboTax Online account that you currently have access to then, you will need to request transcripts from the IRS.
They do mail it to address on the last filing UNLESS you call or write to them telling them your current address and request your documents and copies you need to you. I did it by phone. Took a while to get through, but it was easy to get done. If you do not reside with a party to a tax return you are still entitled to the info.
You also can sign in to the IRS.Gov site and request transcripts of your taxes. YOU do not have to know the amount of the last tax filing because you simply are asking for your own use. You need to setup a login and password which they will verify by texting you a code, every time you log in.
You can usually get up to 4 years returns immediately at IRS.gov
This isn’t true
My soon to be ex filed with turbo tax since 2000 and i can’t access the records at all
The IRS has it protected so I can’t touch the records
He’s kept every refund
we live together
no one has a separation or divorce
@kristinw98 Contact your local IRS office. See this IRS website for local IRS offices - http://www.irs.gov/uac/Contact-Your-Local-IRS-Office-1 or call 1-844-545-5640 to set up an appointment
I have tried contacting irs
they won’t budge bc i don’t know the PIN or refund amount ( he has hidden accounts that he put the refunds in)
im
basically caught in a web
tbe only tax records i have with him
physically go back to 2009
the rest he locked up on the computer and refused to let me have access to
@kristinw98 If he filed the tax returns as Married Filing Jointly then your name and Social Security number are on those tax returns. The IRS can provide you with that type of tax return. You need to make an appointment with the local IRS office. Bring your Marriage License or Certificate and your State ID card or Drivers License and your Social Security card.
I’m not sure what he filed because i can’t see the records
but i wouldn’t be surprised if he filed HOH
he gets $1800 in SSDI and $$4500 tax free a month
i make half that
I pay my own bills
i buy food for the kids and clothing and upkeep on things
he just made sure i was not on any of the bills ( electric water mortgage so he could screw me over and that’s what he did) in our state it doesn’t matter after 10 yrs it’s 50/50 ownership and it’s been 25 years
You are describing your spouse as your "soon to be ex" --- so assuming you are divorcing, you are going to have an attorney involved--if not now, you will soon. One of the things you will need help from the attorney with is getting those tax returns. If joint tax returns were filed, your name was put on them too and you have a right to get copies. Get the attorney involved.
