Corrected W-2c

Received a W-2c from employer in Portland, OR.  The only correction on the W-2c was to the Local Wages, tips, etc.  Box 18, for one of our Localities, Locality name Metro.   There was NO change to Federal or State, Soc. Sec., Medicare wages, tax withheld, or any other Federal or State info.  Therefore, there was no change to Federal or State taxable income and no changes to taxes owed.  The ONLY change was to the Local Wages, tips, etc, Box 18 which I can amend with our Local Income Tax Return.

Since a W-2c was issued and the IRS will get a copy, do I still need to file an Amended Return even though it has no impact on Fed. or State taxes?

Thanks for the help.

Corrected W-2c

there is nothing to amend for federal or state unless the local taxes withheld changed and you itemized.  but even then it really depends on the significance of that change. you can enter the revised numbers to see what the effect if any is. then you use your discretion.

No, you do not have to amend federal or state if there is no change in tax as Tax Champ Mike9241 advises.

As you say, you should amend your local return. It’s odd your local wages would change but not your local tax withheld (Box 19). You may want to double-check with your employer about that.

If there is a change in local tax withheld, it may impact federal and state if you itemized deductions as Mike9241 says.
