Some updates from my case.
I submitted the ITIN application for my wife through the local IRS office on March 5, altogether with the certified copy of my wife's passport. I was able to get through the IRS phone call 3 times in the past two weeks. In mid July, they told me our application was already in the system and we should be able to hear back by the end of that week. Then we called again the following Monday and were told we would have to wait until end of this month. So we called today, and the IRS person told us that they are now processing my wife's ITIN application and we should receive a letter from them within one month AND the ITIN processing will be done within 3 months (which confused me a lot). We were also told that our federal tax return has not been forwarded to the tax office, which is totally expected given the requirement on the ITIN number.
Hope this helps whoever is still in the long waiting process.
this is too long, i sent my w7 itin applications in April and still get nothing. now i guess this is normal.
Sorry ... but due to the 3 month covid shut down everything that requires human interaction has been delayed so add 3 months to any usual processing time frame and there is nothing you can do but wait for them to catch up to your application.
Good News, I have recived ITIN number today from my kids and spouse Date in the notice is August 3rd. I submitted on March 12th.
Thank you!
@txhousa wrote:Good news. I submitted my tax return, W7 for my wife and had documents verified at TAC in Eugene, OR on Feb, 27th. I receeived a ITIN via mail yesterday (07/20). In the mail, it says my documents were processsed on June 29th. So it took 3 weeks for mailing the ITIN letter. Also, I check my refund on IRS website and the status is my tax return was received.
Quick update on my case. I checked Where is my refund today and received the following status:
Your tax refund is scheduled to be sent to your bank by August 13, 2020.
Also, my refund amount was adjusted to higher than requested amount in my tax return.
So here is my timeline:
Feb 27th: submitted tax return and ITIN application at TAC in Eugene, OR
June 29th: My document was processed
July 20th: Received ITIN letter, the status was able to check on Where is my refund page.
Aug 10th: Checked on Where is my refund page and saw my tax refund was schedule
Aug 13th: Receive refund ???
Update for my case too. I received a rejection letter for ITIN application last July 13, 2020 (I submitted the tax return and w-7 on February 26, 2020). Got my refund last August 7, 2020 credited to my bank account, and it was higher than the amount I was expecting - higher because I expected them to refund me only based on single filing because ITIN application was rejected, higher too because it was a little bit higher ($20 higher) than the amount expected if ITIN has been approved.
I saw a status on the same day July 13, 2020 on the Where's my Refund tool that my tax return is being processed and refund will be issedu within 21 days. On August 7th, I checked and it said my refund has been approved and will be sent to bank on August 10. However, on the same day, August 7th, I saw it has been credited (though not yet posted and is still a pending item).
I resubmitted my ITIN Application on July 23, 2020. I haven't received any letter from IRS regarding my return.
Hope the above helps.
txhousa, many thanks for the update and sharing your timeline. The extra refund is probably the interest accumulated on your original refund amount.
I submitted our W7 + tax return on March 5 from North Dakota and still have not heard anything back as of today. I will keep waiting and waiting ...
Some others have posted that their ITIN has been issued and a notice mailed to them ... patience will be needed as they play catch up.
Hi,
Quick update on my case. I was able to see 'Return received' after a couple of days after receiving the ITIN letter. Today (Day 18 from received date) the Where's my refund tool is missing the progress bar and it shows - 'Your tax return is still being processed. A refund date will be provided when available.'
Typically the refund is approved by Day 21. Wanted to check if anyone in the forum saw a similar message before refund gets approved. Is it normal for federal tax returns with ITin applications attached to have such delays after returns are received by IRS?
Any inputs would be appreciated!
I did have the same message but that was towards the end of day 21. The next day I checked, the refund was already approved. My husband's ITIN application was rejected though, though we received an even higher amount of refund. Took us almost 6 months from when we filed to get the refund last August 7, 2020.
I talked to the ITIN office over the phone today and asked for the status of my wife's ITIN application which was submitted through the local IRS office on March 5. The lady told me our application is still being processed and we have to wait for 9-11 weeks. Someone on this thread submitted their application on the same day and has already received the tax refund. I am really confused about how the ITIN office handles applications, a purely random process? Sorry, just me whining ...
I submit on June 2, and do I need to wait till next yr?...
Do u all mail to Austin?
I received the ITIN letter in mail today. I went to Turbo Tax to change my State Tax to E-file. It accidentally took federal tax as efile as well. I am suppose to receive federal tax by mail that I originally sent with my W7 paperwork. Is it problem for me now? anyone please help me urgently. I am worried. Please advise If i need to inform IRS?
Thank you,
Rina
