Which phone number did you call? I cannot get hold of anyone on the phone. Everytime the call drops off saying that due to high volume they are unable to service my request.
Is this
- the date mentioned on your return?
- the date when you mailed in the return?
- the date when it was received?
I am confused as to which date should be written on the website.
I called [phone number removed]. Try to call in the morning hour 8 - 9 AM EST or keep trying
All,
So I had sent my Tax Return with W7/ITIN for my daughter along with her passport on March 05, 2020. I received a notice CP566 yesterday (but dated Jul 15)- requesting documents to prove identity and foreign status ( Her passport/Visa is with Austin and they confirmed the same)
On talking to an IRS rep - who was grateful enough to ping Austin and ask what they actually need above my kid's passport - I came to know now that they need my (parent's) passport/Visa as I had chosen option (g) in her W7 as she is a dependent of a US Visa holder.
This was kind of new to me , has anyone had this situation before ? Please share.
Nevertheless, the processing is on and you all should hear something sooner rather than later in the coming weeks. Good luck
Regards,
Arun
Hi @narasimhairving @akp3866 @da38778163 @roy2020 @rinagill,
I received the ITin letter in mail today. I submitted my ITin paperwork on March 05 in Minneapolis. The 'Where's my refund' tool still does not work for me. I give my exact refund amount, SSN & Filing Status as 'Married-Filing Joint Return'.
It looks like March applications are being processed & ITin letters are in the process of being mailed. So you should be all getting the letter soon. Good luck!

great to hear.
Did you actually receive a refund or just the ITIN number?
@roy2020 I received the ITIN letter only. Not the refund.
Getting the ITIN notice lets you know the return has been forwarded for processing ... however is needs to be manually entered and they are 3 months behind in paper returns so you may have a lot of time to wait ... patience will be needed.
If you need to file a state return you can now open your return by scrolling down and clicking on ADD A STATE .. add the ITIN in the MY INFO section then complete the state interview so you can choose to mail in the return in the FILE tab.
When you received the letter? Was it addressed to your wife or was it addressed to you on the envelope?
@nihilbritto Happy for you. Please let us know when your tax gets processed so we can have idea about us.
Thank you,
Rina
When I apply W-7, should I leave blank for dependents' Social security number on Form 1040 ? Or do I need enter dummy number ( i.e. [phone number removed])?
I left it blank and wrote next by that W-7/ITIN application attached.
