You can use the steps below to get back to your vehicle expenses on Schedule C and change your vehicle deduction method.
To Edit Vehicle Mileage:
1. In your return, search for "Schedule C" on the top right of the screen.
2. Select the "Jump to Schedule C", option.
3. Select "Edit" next to the business you are claiming vehicle expenses for.
4. Under your Expenses, select "Edit" next to vehicle.
5. The next screen will show a list of the cars you have entered. Select "Edit" next to the one you would like to switch to the standard mileage method.
6. Go through the next few screens until you come across the screen that reads, "Do you want to see if the standard mileage deduction give you a bigger deduction?"
7. Go through the next few screens, making sure all mileage information is entered. At the end of the section, the program will state "You may get a bigger deduction by using ___________." Here you will have the option to pick between the two, regardless if it is the one the program recommends or not.
Note: If you deducted your actual expenses the first year, you cannot switch to the standard mileage deduction this year.
