Head of house hold vs single

i am trying to complete my daughter taxes - She is single with a child, lives in Austin Texas and has a roommate- they split the rent etc.. the room mate claimed single ( not head of household)... my daughter mailing address on the tax return is my home address... where my wife and i will file taxes as married jointly ( no dependent of kids any more) ... so Question can mu daughter claim head of house hold on the rent house and my address is listed as her mailing address ?   this provides another 700. in return filing head of household

Head of house hold vs single

Your daughter can file as "Head of Household" if the following is true:

  1. She was unmarried as of December 31, 2016 and
  2. She paid more than half the cost to run her home in 2016 (rent, utilities, etc.) and
  3. Supported a qualifying person.

Based on your question it sounds like #1 She was unmarried and #3 she supported her child, a qualifying person.  If that is the case and her answer to the question "Did you pay more than half the cost to keep up your home in 2016?" is true, then she would qualify.

Head of house hold vs single

My daughter lived on her own last year and filed single. She just bought a house in Nov and had a child on 12/28/21.   Why when doing her Taxes it will not let her file Head of House hold.

dependent child must be recognized by TurboTax before it can work.

enter "all year" for time newborn child lived with you.

First of all she must have had a baby on 12/28/2020 not 2021.

A child born (even on Dec 31) is considered to live with you the whole year.  So pick the Whole Year at the top of the drop down box.

Oh  and she needs a ssn for the baby.  Did she get it yet?
