Newly married in 2017. Both took standard red. in 2016 and applied state refund to 2017 state tax.. Tax imports only one 2016 return. Can't enter the other refund.

You would simply add the state refund amounts to together to enter them in 2017 on your joint return.

Usually, when you take the standard deduction, your tax refund is not taxable the following year (the year you receive the refund.) Therefore, you should not need to add your two separate refunds (from 2016) together and enter them on the 2017 return. You may want to double-check this, and you may need to amend 2017 if you included your combined 2016 refunds in 2017 taxable income when you did not need to do so.
