When listing my estimated tax payments for 2018 can I list the one made on January 15, 2019? There is a line for it on turbotax software??

Yes, if it was a payment for 2018, then it should be included in your 2018 estimated tax payments.  The 4th quarter payment due date is January 15 of the following year.

If the January payment is a state tax estimated payment and you are itemizing your deductions on your federal return, the January payment will not be included as an itemized amount as only tax payments made in 2018 qualify, but the payment still will be included in determining the amount of taxes paid for 2018, plus whether you owe any additional or are due a refund on your state return.

To enter, edit or delete estimated taxes paid (Federal, State, Local) -

  • Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
  • Click on Deductions and Credits
  • Scroll down to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid
  • On Estimates, click on the start or update button. Be sure to pick State.

Or enter estimates paid in the Search box located in the upper right of the online program screen.  Click on Jump to estimates paid
