Why don't my 2018 charitable contributions show up in my summary of 2017 & 2018 deductions & credits? Is it because I am being told my standard deduction will be best?

Yes, charitable contributions are an itemized deduction and will only be reflected on your return if you itemize deductions, as opposed to taking the standard deduction, on your return.
