Lottery mistakenly issued duplicate W2G statements for the same transaction payout. They informed us to disregard the error since the tax collection agencies will accept only one of the W2G's since their transaction Identifiers are the same.

Under the circumstances, report only one of the W2-Gs on your return.
To piggyback on this thread, I just received a letter from the IRS for 2017 trying to adjust my taxable earnings for duplicate W2Gs. I did have 2 wins that would require a W2G which were claimed but they are picking up on 2 extras of each for a total of 6 W2Gs, 4 from Betfair and 2 from Golden nugget, I imagine their parent company since my betfair W2G says Golden Nugget on the Payer Name portion of the form. Somehow these duplicates slipped through the cracks. What do you advise here?
Thank you in advance,
Joe
