A five dollar error was made on the amount of money I carried over on my 2021 return to the next year. The IRS sent me a letter stating that there was a addition error. I carried over more than $1,000, from the 2021 return to the 2022 return, so they have enough funds, no issue there. My plan is to finish completing the 2022--1040 and then subtracting an additional 5.00 from the carryover on the form section and hoping it will stick and that the software won't want me to change it back. Anyone have any experience with a change on the form sticking? Otherwise I could just put the correct amount on the form and print it out and then replace it with the one from Turbo Tax software, but that would make it incorrect for the next year. The IRS isn't asking me to do the return over, and it doesn't effect anything on the return going forward so there doesn't seem to be a need to do another return.

If you make a change in Forms Mode, the interview will not override that change (unless you do so).
That's good to know, that was the response I hoped for. Thank you!
So in addition, I'm assuming, (tell me if I'm incorrect), that means that when I transfer the 2022 return to the following year (2023), the change made in the form mode in the 2022 return will be transferred to the 2023 return, and I'll have the correct amount to start with on the 2023 interview?
Yes if you transfer from the .tax2022 file. You can also change the amount during the interview steps. Is it for a 2021 refund you are applying to 2022? Or something else? But that shouldn't affect your 2023 return.

If, for some reason, a wrong amount is transferred from 2022 to 2023, you will be able to correct it in your 2023 tax return. You are not locked in to what TurboTax transfers.
