Why is there only one chance to use the state tax component?

I do the tax returns for my family that live in the same state as I do, SC. I am not looking to electronically file for anyone but myself. The rest of the family can simply sign and mail their returns. Thank you

The issue was stated, I thought, quite clearly. TurboTax "state" component will allow just one tax return to be completed. As I also said, I prepare the tax returns for family and need to do several state income tax returns which I can not by using this software. Had I know this I would have stuck with my previous tax return software.

For any return you prepare on Windows you can add the SC State return to it, once you have added that state to your CD/Download program.

Why was that not helpful?  The answer above is correct.  If you have desktop software with state software, then you can prepare multiple state returns along with the federal returns.  You get 5 free federal e-files, and you have the software to prepare that particular state's returns as well.. The only possible extra fee would  be if you choose to e-file those state returns.  Then there is a fee to e-file the states--you can avoid the state e-file fee by printing and mailing in the state returns.

Thank you for your reply and you are most helpful. The software stated when I went to do the state tax return, that I was only allowed to file one state return. NO mention of the ability to do more than just that one. Thus the confusion. Thank you, again for your reply.
