It sounds like you have the PLUS upgrade for 29.99.  Did you transfer the 2016 data so you needed PLUS?  Or did you choose PLUS for the other benefits?

In any case, if you chose to pay the 29.99 fee out of the Federal refund, there is a 39.99 service fee for that option (44.99 for California filers, where it is bundled with "Premium Services.")  You can remove that payment option and pay upfront to avoid the service fee.  We can tell you how.

If you don't need PLUS (29.99), you may be able to remove PLUS prior to filing.

If it won't let you, you can try "Clear and Start Over".

If it won't let you start over, we can tell you how to remove the refund processing option and pay the 29.99 fee with a credit/debit card or a prepaid debit card you can buy in a store.

Or we can tell you about switching to another free TurboTax product, the Freedom Edition (not the Free Edition), which has no fees,  upgrades, etc. and is free for both Fed and State returns.   You would have to start over at a different website with a new account, and you would have to meet one of the qualifications to use that product.

Here's how you can view the current fees on your TurboTax account using these steps:

1. Sign into your account and continue your current return

2. Select TaxTools on the bottom left of the screen

3. Select Tools and then select My Fees

You will then see a detailed view of your charges.
