How many states should there be? So you mean on your W-2? Or what screen do you see taxable state wages?
When I am filing my NJ state taxes and it says let’s confirm your taxable state wages I only see my W-2 and I don’t see my husbands W-2.
Go back to the federal section and click on Edit to review your husband's W-2. Make sure you completed the state entries at the bottom and have NJ listed for his wages. And make sure you have each W-2 assigned to the right person, sometimes all the W-2s get assigned to the same person. Click on Federal/Wages & Income on the left to get back to the W-2 screens.
Yes I have checked all that, the W2s are assigned to the correct people and I have the correct information filled out for state taxes (boxes 15-17)
I am having trouble finding a screen in the CD/download product that lists W2s for taxable state wages.
Can you post a screen shot with any personally identifiable data redacted in this thread?
Thank you for the screen shot, but despite a number of attempts, I have no idea what triggers this screen.
How about you send us a "token", which is a sanitized version of your return so we can see what is actually happening?
TurboTax Online:
Click Tax Tools in the menu to the left.
Click Tools, and then
Click Share my file with Agent.
A pop-up message will appear. Click OK to send the sanitized diagnostic copy to us.
Provide the token number that is generated onto this thread.
TurboTax Desktop:
Select Online menu if the customer is using Windows. Select “Help” if using a Mac.
Select Send Tax File to Agent.
A pop-up message will appear, and the customer will select, Send. If using Mac "Send Tax File to TurboTax Agent"
Note: Desktop will save a file to your computer unless you uncheck the box.
Another message will appear. Provide the token number that is generated onto this thread.
At the bottom of your reply (with the token) add "@" "BillM223" (without the space in between) so I will be notified.
This will let us see what is happening on your return. Thanks.
Ok I did that, token number 1128353
Thanks!
It appears that the reason you see one W-2 is because on one W-2, there is a sizable difference between federal Wages in Box 1 and NJ Wages in box 16, whereas on the other W-2, the numbers are the same.
My guess is that in the past, there were often situation where W-2s would have multiple state wages entries, one for NJ with a unique state wage, and another for some other state with a wage matching the federal. My guess is that people did not understand that this is normal for NJ so wanted a way to "fix" this.
Not a problem - NJ is supposed to have different wages than the federal amount (as least in most cases).
The second W-2 has only one Section 125 program on it, which happens to be about the only one recognized by NJ, so the NJ wages are supposed to be like the federal - sheer accident.
So, no issue here.
