Why do i have to start a new account after divorce?

i divorced and am no longer filing jointly for this past tax year. why do i have to start a new account to do this?

If you filed a joint return last year -

And you were listed first, you don't need to start a new return. You can just delete your spouse. Remember, however, that your ex-spouse may still have the login and password for that account.
And you were listed second, you need to start a new return. Turbotax indexes by the first name so it can't be effectively deleted.

If you filed a joint return last year and were divorced by Dec 31 you need to start completely over and set up a new account and new username and password and not transfer from last year. See
