I used to be able to do this prior to 2023. Turbotax premier/deluxe/business allowed one to install on different computers with one activation code and allowed a single download of one state for free. It didnt have to be the same state on the 2 computers, which was useful to evaluate the tax impact of a move, for example, or a child dependent living in a different state. I believe those situations were allowed with the Turbotax EULA.
Now with 2023, you are required to activate your install with your intuit account, which keeps track of which state you have already installed and prevents you from installing a different state on the second computer without paying $45. Why is turbotax doing this? Is there a way to do a separate install of a single but different state? Is this just greed? Thanks

I verified with the EULA that the terms havent changed in this regards in 2023, but the functionality for downloading a single but different state been removed.
"In addition to the license to Software in the Section A Terms, you agree that you may only: (i) install and use a copy of the Software on up to five (5) computers owned by you (at home or at work); (ii) use the Software only to prepare, print and/or electronically file your own federal 2023 tax year returns and related 2023 state tax returns;
"For TurboTax Deluxe, Premier, and Home & Business:
You may prepare, print and e-file your federal return and your return for one State, if applicable, subject to the e-file restrictions herein.
Additional charges apply for returns in additional States and for all State e-filing (except NY).
E-File Restrictions
The Internal Revenue Service (“IRS”) imposes a limit of five (5) federal e-files.
The Software imposes a limit of three (3) State e-files per federal return."
From my understanding of what you describe, this shouldn't be a problem. Please call TurboTax Customer service. Here is a link: Turbo Tax Customer Service
The TurboTax user license allows one user to install copies of TurboTax on up to five computers that the user owns. You can also prepare multiple returns, including returns for other people. But the license does not allow, and has never allowed, one copy to be shared among different people. This year, that license is being enforced by requiring users to log into their TurboTax online account when they install the program for the first time. This locks one particular copy of the program and one license code to one user account. The only way you could install the program on a computer that you do not own, would be to give the other person your online username and password. And even though that workaround might allow the installation, it’s still a violation of the license.
I will call Turbotax. "This shouldnt be a problem." But it is. It doesnt work this year.
