Sometimes people pay with their refund but then the funds are taken due to debt, or they end up without enough in their refund to pay their TurboTax fees and the $40 or $45 charge to pay with refund. When that happens then their credit card or bank account is charged for the fees. If you have sufficient funds in your refund, the fees will be deducted from that. If something happens and you can end up paying with your refund, then your credit card or bank account will be charged for the preparation fees and there will be no pay with refund charges deducted.
There are several situations where you won't be able to use the Pay With My Refund service, including:
If you select Pay with My Refund to pay your TurboTax fees, there’s an additional $40 processing fee charged by the third-party bank that handles the transaction.
Once your e-filed return is in pending or accepted status, it's too late to remove Pay with My Refund. But if your return is rejected, you have another opportunity to remove Pay with My Refund.
