Your federal Form 1040 has a line near the bottom of page 2 with bold black letters that say "Sign here" Sign and date the form in ink. If it is a joint return, both spouses must sign and date it.
We do not know if you have a state return -- or what state---so if you do it is your own job to look it over and find where to sign it. It should not be difficult.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
For a paper-filed 2025 Form 1040, sign and date on page 2 in the Sign here section. If filing a joint return, both spouses must sign and date.
For Form 1040-SR, the signature area is on page 3
