If you’re referring to your federal income tax return, you’ll sign and date on page 2 of Form 1040 or page 3 of Form 1040-SR, whichever you’re filing.
If you’re referring to a state return, most require signature and dating on the last page of the return. If you can’t find it, please reply back, identifying your state.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Sign your name at the bottom of page 1 of Form 1 if you are filing a resident return as Tax Champ @Critter-3 says or at the bottom of page 1 of Form 1-NR/PY if you are filing as a nonresident or part-year resident.
Your spouse must also sign if this is a joint return. Write the date you signed the return.
We suggest sending your return by certified mail with proof of delivery.
VA state
@delilacu At the bottom of page 2 on your VA tax return there is a place for your own signature and date and for your spouse's signature if you are filing a joint return.
