Where do I locate the screen to select the type of federal return to file?

There is only one type of federal return to file.  That is a form 1040.  As you walk through the questions and answers, various forms and schedules will be added to the return, but everyone files and starts with form 1040.

What do you mean “type”?  Everyone files a 1040.  If you are 65 or older you automatically get a 1040-SR.  If you mean like Single or Married you select that under My Info when you enter your name and pick Single, Married etc.
