Where do I find the control number on my 1099

I would first make sure you are entering the form in the correct spot. Usually, only W-2s have control numbers.

However, if you are entering your 1099 and it is requesting a control number, you can just leave it blank or just enter any number in this format: 5 digits, space, 5 digits (for example, 12345 67890).

A Control Number (Box D) is used by many payroll departments to uniquely identify a form in their system. If your form doesn't have one, it's no big deal – you can simply leave it blank.

Just a head's up - when trying to fill out your 1099 online through Turbo Tax, you're not allowed to just leave the field blank by not entering anything, and they don't accept "00000 00000" as a valid entry.

@laurellynn

If you are having issues with your Control Number on your 1099, try entering something such as 12345 67890, instead of all zeros. If this does not work and you are still having issues, I would suggest reaching out to TurboTax Customer Support for further assistance.
