Your state estimated tax payments will serve as a credit your state tax liability and have to be entered on your tax return.
You enter your state estimated tax payments in the Federal section and they will flow through to your state return.
You can enter the state estimated taxes you paid by following these steps:
I entered estimated federal and state tax payments into Turbo Tax (under the federal income tax credits/deductions), but they did not flow to the Indiana State tax form (IT-40 and Schedule 5). So, I think there is an error in the software regarding Indiana estimated tax payments. Please confirm. If necessary, I can file on line via the Indiana Department of Taxation, but I've paid $45 for the state tax program.
Any help will be appreciated! Thanks!
Federal and state estimated payments should be done separately. At the end of your Indiana state return, TurboTax will ask if you want to make estimated tax payments. Please see the FAQ link provided below for assistance:
Can TurboTax calculate the estimated payments for next year's state taxes?
I need to be able to deduct the estimated tax payments made during 2020 for my 2020 return. But the information entered under the federal return did not flow to my Indiana return. This means we owe $1512 (the amount of estimated tax payments already made) more to the state than we should for 2020.
The software already estimated payments for 2021, but this will change once we correct the current problem...
If this cannot be fixed this year, I'd like my $45 returned since Turbo Tax won't properly calculate the Indiana state taxes due for 2020.
Thanks!
