Where do I enter Long-term capital loss carryforward/

If you transferred last year's TurboTax return over, the capital loss carryover has already been entered for you.

Otherwise, you may enter the capital loss carryover yourself:

  • Open (continue) your return in TurboTax Online. (If your return isn't open, you'll need to sign in and click Take me to my return.)
  • Click My Account (top right of your screen).
  • Select Tools.
  • In the pop-up window, select Topic Search.
  • In the search bar, type carryover.
  • In the results box, highlight carryover, then click GO.
  • Follow the onscreen instructions. TurboTax will prompt you to enter your long-term capital loss carryover. (Click the screenshots below for reference. The screenshots show TurboTax Premier Online, TurboTax Self-Employed, and TurboTax Desktop, respectively.)

Note: If using the TurboTax CD/Download software, you'll use the Find function (instead of "My Account") to search for the topic.
