If you used the TurboTax Easy Extension to electronically file the extension request, Form 4868, and make the tax payment with the request, the payment should already entered on your tax return. In April, TT showed that I owed $1500, so I told I wanted to file extension and it had me fill out and print form 4868. I mailed the form and check to IRS. But when trying to file final now, it still thinks I owe $1500.
I followed your instructions and TT does show I entered the extension amount correctly, but it does NOT change the amount it wants me to pay. When I go "Other Income Taxes" I see that it shows the $1500 I sent in. So to experiment, I change it to $150 and later to $15,000 and it does not change the amount TT says I still owe, so it is not flowing through to the 1040.
*There is no Line 70 on 1040, but Line 17 seems like the place it would show up and Line 17 remains blank. When I go to the forms area and try to open up worksheets for Line 17, none mention taxes paid with extension.
When I printed form 4868 and paid by check, did I fail to click some button in TT? Help Please!
Reply to self: Form 1040 is much shorter for 2018 and then it refers to a bunch of schedules. Schedule 5, has a line 71 for extension payments. Schedule 5 totals show up on Line 17 of 1040. IRS instructions say...
If you got an automatic extension of time to file Form 1040 by filing Form 4868 or by making a payment, enter the amount of the payment or any amount you paid with Form 4868. If you paid by debit or credit card, don’t include on line 71 the convenience fee you were charged. Also, include any amounts paid with Form 2350.

My state extension payment does show up on the state forms in TT.
When I go into Forms mode in TT I see the Tax Payments form in the list. When I open it, it shows estimated and extension taxes lines. On the extension lines (line 9), it sees the money I sent in for state, but not for Fed. So I manually enter the amount sent to feds and life is good. The total I owe IRS is now correct. (1040 Schedule 5 was not in the list until I manually entered extension amount as noted.)
Somehow I must not have told TT that I had filed Fed Extension even though it knew I filed state.
Thanks a lot! this was my exact problem. It looks like this is a bug in the software, I did just what you did. If you fill out the other income taxes the way the first person recommended it should fill this form out!
