@hyperkikIn that case, I am out of suggestions. Hope you get this worked out soon.
Thank you! Based on everything I've read and learned the problem is likely that E*Trade has not made the file available yet. My 1099 PDF just became available on Wednesday. It seems like it often takes a few days between when the PDF is available to view and the file is posted to the endpoint where Turbo Tax presumably accesses it for the import functionality.
The problem is there is no visibility that this is the problem and no visibility as to when the file will be posted.
It's also possible I'm incorrect and the file is there and something else is wrong.
I’ve done all the troubleshooting—resetting my password to a simple one, testing on two different Mac laptops and one Windows laptop, etc. I have no issue importing the E*Trade tax file on a Windows laptop, but when attempting the same on macOS, the file is not imported, and no error message appears. This is clearly a bug in the macOS TurboTax desktop app. Why can’t a TurboTax expert(cc: @MarilynG1) escalate this issue to their engineering team? If we’re using a macOS laptop, there’s nothing we can do unless they implement a fix.
@nicoleqq2005 Thank you so much for this info. I don't have have access to a windows machine so that is incredibly helpful to know. I guess we are stuck waiting for TurboTax to help. I hope someone from TurboTax can chime in here.
Question -- I've spent hours getting everything ready and the last step is this E*trade 1099-consolidated. I assume it's not an option for me to borrow a windows laptop to complete this last step without doing everything again because nothing is stored in the cloud, right? I would have to start over from scratch?
You should post your question as a NEW thread. I'm not sure anyone who knows the Mac>>Windows answer will see your post in this thread.
I know you can transfer a file created in TurboTax Mac to TurboTax Windows for a prior year, but am not sure about opening a file created by a Mac in a Windows install for the same tax year.
@hyperkikI’m not sure if you can import the file saved on Mac to Windows—I haven’t tried it yet. I only tested the E*Trade import, which works. I’m hoping that TurboTax will roll out a fix soon.
Good news! With the latest update, we can now import E*TRADE tax documents into the macOS app.
