When preparing a second 2024 tax return, the software did not give me the option to upload my previous year's information. Has something changed?

After preparing my return for 2024, when beginning to prepare my children returns for 2024 (like I've done for the past decade), Turbo Tax did not ask me if I wanted to upload their prior year's return information which makes preparing their 2024 returns much more difficult. Am I doing something wrong?

I think you may have skipped a step.   I am assuming you are using the desktop software.   When you start a NEW return for one of your children, you will get the screens below where it is looking for a 2023 tax return to transfer in.   Click on Browse on the Good News! We Found Your Tax Info page, and find that child's 2023 tax return to transfer it in.

Are you on Windows or Mac?  And you are using the Desktop installed program?

If you used the Desktop program, you need the data file ending in .tax2023 to transfer. It should be in your Documents then in a Turbo Tax folder. Or search your whole computer for all files ending in .tax or .tax2023.

Here's an idea. Do you still have 2023 installed? Try opening 2023 program and see if you can get your 2023 return to show up in it. Go to FILE - OPEN. And see if that is the right one.

In the 2023 program do a File-Save AS and give it a easy name you can find or search for. And note where it saves it or select where to save it so you can find it again. The file will end in .tax2023. Then close the 2023 program. Then start a new 2024 return and transfer from the 2023 file.

Are you on Windows 10? That can move files to different spots like to One Drive. Or to Drop Box. Could it be under a different user on your computer?
