When I look at what forms are being filed the NY IT-2 form is shown as unsupported, but it has been supported in years past. How do I efile?

I am trying to e-file my Federal, NJ and NY tax forms, but when I click transmit it comes back with "Our records indicate that you are not entitled to efile one or more formsets." The only form showing unsupported is the NY IT-2, but it was supported in past years.  How do we get past this?

You cannot e-file since the IT-2 form is unsupported. However, you are not required to e-file and are able to mail in your return.

Per NYS, you're only required to electronically file your return if you meet all three of the following conditions:

  • You use software to prepare your own personal income tax return
  • Your software supports the electronic filing of your return
  • You have broadband Internet access

You are qualified to mail in your return because your software does not support electronic filing of this form.

There is no penalty for mailing in your return.

If you are NOT including a payment, mail your return to:

STATE PROCESSING CENTER

PO BOX 61000

ALBANY NY 12261-0001

If you ARE including a payment (check or money order), mail your return (including Form IT-201-V) to:

STATE PROCESSING CENTER

PO BOX 15555

ALBANY NY 12212-5555

This is insane. Just saw all the threads for a year ago with this problem and it is not fixed? Why hasn’t TT been public about IT-2 for Ny? It is a summary of W-2’s!!! Not some crazy form!

At least update the instructions on the printouts.

It still says that one has to file electronically.

Thanks Lena.

I understand I can paper file, however, my complaints are:

1, IT-2 is an extremely common form, I don't get why it can be supported by Turbotax, and how this (not able to efile) was not clarified before payment.

2, The print out return still contains a misleading page from Turbotax stating "New York State requires this income tax return to be filed electronically".

To me, both suggest a lack of trying from Turbotax.

So if the W-2 summary is unavilable for filing in NYS, how would any NYS tax payer be able to efile via turbo tax?  This should be a disclaimer prior to getting started, most companies do not allow you to efile your state taxes only.

It's 2022 and IT-2 is still not supported for e-Filing. It means that anyone with W-2 to report have to print and  mail  NY tax return instead of e-Filing it. I wouldn't buy Turbo Tax product if it was properly disclosed. Very frustrating.
