Can one parent claim head of household and the other claim a dependent child? Parents are both single and live together.

When an unmarried couple lives together, then only one parent can claim the child and all related benefits, including head of household. The other parent will not include the child on his or her return at all. Therefore, unless there is another dependent in the household, only one parent can claim the dependent and file as head of household.
