My tax id number seems to be too long

Box 15 on the W-2 Form is for state tracking. They will have the federal EIN on the form, as well.
Try truncating the entry from right to left or put in the federal EIN.

And...it is NOT an employee tax id number...it is the company's state tax Id number so that the state knows what company supposedly sent in the withholding $$$.
