Well ..... the IRS will not even begin to accept e-files until tomorrow on January 23, so if you filed before that you return would only have been sitting on a server.
Not sure what you mean by "we are already running behind."
Lots of federal and/or state forms are not ready yet. You have to e-file your federal return first, and then your state. The state will not accept a return until the IRS has accepted your federal return. The IRS begins to accept returns on January 23. If you are waiting for federal forms you will also have to wait to file your state.
