Virginia tax question for 2023

If I have to repay overpayment from VA unemployment received in 2020, how do I claim it on taxes and will I get my fed taxes paid on it back?

@BBC88 how much are we taking about?  More or less than $3000 is what matters.  

if less than $3,000 there is no adjustment on the federal tax return.  Any tax benefit is lost; that is simply the way it works. 

if more than #3,000 there is a way to get the tax back but it is complicated.
