UT Withholding ID number must be 14 characters long without hyphens, you must go back to federat W-2 or 1099 to update the employer/payer state withholding ID. Anyone?

Tried changing and it didn't work. Still shows up the same.

@srwells97

Try again

For Utah, the final three letters of the state ID number must be lower case!! wth

This has been going on for several years now, and I have no idea why TTX fails to program their software to accept/change to whatever case is needed automatically.  BAH !!

Alos, one time in the past I had to go thru twice to fix it.  Once to delete the Stae ID number entirely....then work my way out....then re-edit the whole form again putting it in with the lower case letters.   I have no idea whether that might be required now also...or whether one thru works.

this is not working. I have tried lower case letters at the end of the ID number,  I have manually re-entered the entire W-2 and that did not work.

what do I need to do differently???????

this is not true - lower case does not work.

what is the real solution??

Lower case has always worked for others.

1) perhaps you have another tax form with the UT withholding number that needs to be modified.

or

2) Last resort...delete the offending form, and re-enter it manually.

Do Not take a picture, Do Not import nor drag-drop a PDF file.  Re-enter it from scratch manually...look for the link to "Type it in myself" as you step thru the entry pages.

For Utah, change the WTH to lower case.  Just make sure you put in the numbers first and then the letters without a hyphen.   @thsimp02

Example:   12345678901wth

This problem is so annoying and has been happening for years.  For me, changing it to lowercase fixed nothing.  I also noticed that on the screen it flags the problem in where it shows a preview of the actual form, on that FORM it would show it uppercase WTH anyway even though I changed it to lowercase.  Then I tried removing 1 number from the ID the first number, so now it should be incorrect because its no longer 14 characters its now 13.  When I did this it fixed it... it said nothing to fix you are good to go... but now it had the actual incorrect 13 letter ID instead of the right one.

Finally I tried to add a new STATE TAX line, and I just re entered the same exact info from the line above, and then I deleted the line above.  This fixed it and it passed the check with the right info.

Yeah, the problem is ridiculous that the software folks should be able to fix...and should have been done YEARS ago..

Similar to what you've done, I had recommended a few times, that folks with this problem, they should Delete the data in the entire State line, then exit the form and then return to retype in the data.  That does essentially the same thing as you've done.

Several folks stated that just editing/replacing the WTH with wth didn't work.   i.e. As soon as they "Continue" on from the main form, the capital WTH showed up on it again, because the edit seemed to be ignored.

The fact that making it 13 characters and just deleting the first number made it pass is also pretty damning.  There is clearly some kind of software bug and they do not care to fix it.  The reason they don't fix it is THIS:

  • IRS Free File Partnership: Rather than a "contract," TurboTax is sometimes a part of the IRS Free File program. This is a public-private partnership where companies agree to provide free services to low-income taxpayers in exchange for the IRS agreeing not to build its own competing software (though this agreement has been frequently contested).
  • Legal Settlements: In recent years, Intuit has been forced to pay $141 million in restitution to millions of customers after state attorneys general alleged the company deceptively "steered" eligible free-filers into paid products.
  • Increased Lobbying: Reports show that Intuit has reached record levels of federal lobbying spending (nearly $3.8 million in a single year) to influence tax policy and maintain its market position

THANK YOU! I cannot believe how trash intuit is to not fix it. Worst company on the planet
